In kids soccer drills, although fresh and energetic, kids generally loose their enthusiasm even before the session begins due to very long pre-briefing sessions. As a coach, this is bad. So take the lecture only for a short while.
5. Choose the exercises that put some strain on the kids. Create a feel of the real match in training sessions so that kids get to understand the real scenario. This will help them get adapted.
6. The preferred way to take soccer drills for youth is to divide the batch into different teams and have them play against each other. This breeds competition and instills a sense of unity among the players.
7. Keep taking notes of performances both on individual level as well as a team. Take a note of time taken to complete the drills, coordination between players, strength etc that affects the performance of the team as a whole.
8. Make positively certain that even though there is healthy rivalry, there are no unfavorable feelings. How can you get this? Do not design games that have elimination as a criteria. This causes dejection among the players. In drills, every body puts in their best and everybody wins. This gives them a psychological high.
9. Ensure that there are adequate balls so that everybody gets one. This is critical since the players will need to learn to control the ball.
10. In the end, design simple drills so that kids have fun with them and you have excelled in your job.
